Hmm, odd, hasn't happened to me before and I haven't heard of it happening
to anyone else (which doesn't automatically mean it's not common, others
more experienced than me might say otherwise).  Particularly odd that both
sides are affected - maybe the car was in some sort of 'incident' in its
past that caused the damage, such as driving too fast into a curb or
something.

I'd go and get another A-arm for that side too!
