Here's a rebuild article on that starter motor you might want to tuck away for 
when you get about 100k miles on it.

The solenoid contacts wear down, but are very replaceable.

Have not investigated it, but I wonder how feasible it is to re-clock the 
bendex snout for installation in a Spitfire.
