Gee Tom,

I feel vindicated.
When I changed out the big end bearings on my 1500 after it started
sounding like it was rolling dice at the craps table, I arrived at the
same solution to that torque problem.
They were set at 48.
The thing is still running.
And the nasty sound went away.
