Bob,
I have used special tool #113HD, a 3/4" drive (!) socket, and breaker bar
with an 8-foot pipe to get an axle nuts loose on a VW bus. Engine in
gear, handbrake on, it still turned the tire on the asphalt when I jumped
on the pipe. It took someone standing on the brake pedal and me jumping
on the pipe, which deflected ~1.5 feet and then BANG! it came loose.
Luckily I was hanging on to the rain gutter...
