Not unless you have a limited slip differential.  I  learnt this lesson on the
streets of Montreal one icy February.  The whell with the least resistance
gets the power, so if you have ice under the rear right, and pavement under
the rear left, the rear right spins like mad and the rear left just sits.  One
trick was to simulate resistance by putting the parking brake on part way.
Witha broken half shaft you're going put all the power to the bad side 'cause
it has no resistance, and the good site will just sit there.
