I'm starting to get worried (maybe paranoid) - the 1000 mile trip is coming
up in two weeks
and the gearbox has started to rattle. At least I assume it's the gearbox.
I get the impression that when I pull away in first it starts to rattle and
that maybe also in second
but I'm not sure. (I also think it rattles on deceleration at low revs.) The
gear change is still very slick, the synchros are OK, and I topped up both
the gearbox
and the diff at the weekend. Now a few questions:

1. Is it the gearbox or something totally different?
2. If it's the box is it serious!? Like, will it just get slowly worse
and worse
or is it likely to break suddenly and give me serious grief on the
road?
3. Can you rebuild a gearbox yourself or would it be better to get a
recon unit?
4. Are special tools really required and what sort of time would you
need?

Support here would be great. You're not allowed push a car onto a car ferry
here! You've got to drive it!
If the car would make it as it is then I could get somebody in England to
supply me a new box. If not
then I'm stuck here in Germany with Moss Europe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve

P.S.
I have nothing but good things to say about the Moss distributor here in
Germany (MK Parts). Everything I get is great
and if it doesn't fit he sends a replacement within 2 days. I think he
builds and races Spridgets himself
so he knows his stuff. I think they have some problems at the moment he told
me the main warehouse in
England burned down a couple of weeks ago destroying a lot of stuff. I can't
get wiper blades!
