The white stuff is not asbestos, it's worse, it is battery corrosion.
The battery sits behind the heater box and on top of the air box.
You probably have a rusty hole in either the heater or the floor of the
battery area. battery acid gets in there, eats the metal, turns it to
white powder and the heater blows it out the vents.
