Aside from ecology reasons, the true function of the PCV we care about is
simple.  It removes blow-by from the crankcase so the pressure doesn't
build up and cause oil leaks (like you find on all the LBC motors that have
had them removed).  Older engines didn't use PCV valves, but had a draft
tube to suck vapors out of the crankcase when the car moves through the air.
