Many thanks.  I never knew about the other spring in the shock body.  So, big
spring is bump and little spring rebound.  Am I right in thinking that most
shocks are tuned for more bumb resistance?

When shocks are advertised as 30% uprated have they fitted a stronger big
spring?  If so, what have they used?

As an aside, if I recall correctly, MOSS in England, UK have bought the
company that makes the Armstrong unit and plan to re-manufacture not much to
anyway in the USA price wise (import taxes etc) but for the Europeans, it
might be.
