Just a quick update on the head gasket et. al. repair.

I bolted everything back up, filled the car with 50/50 coolant and gave the
little guy an oil change while I was at it. Here's the rub (minor). I
wanted to just get it running long enough to warm up the coolant and the
valves to check for leaks and then do a valve adjustment. I saw in the
Motorhead tune up tape that you should adjust valves while warm. So, I
didn't replace the valve cover gasket. Yep, quite a bit of oil leakage.
Leaked even before I started it so I think I put quart number 2 in way too
fast and it didn't have time to seep down into the engine. Oh well,
tomorrow I'll clean it up and put the new gasket in. The car did run ok
based on my 2 minute experiment though and for that I'm happy. Tomorrow
it's finish up and road test.

One question - can I adjust the valves without warming them up? I'd do
that before putting on the new gasket. If that is unadvisable I'll just
put it together for this weekend and do the valves with yet another new
gasket next weekend.

Thanks to all for the advice I've received,

Philip
