Someone with a big Healey told me about this, so it may not apply to Sprites.

He said that the sensor was grounded to the fuel line originally. The first
time someone does a restoration on the car, they use teflon tape when putting
the line back together, and presto! The gauge stops working.

Please correct me if this doesn't apply to Sprites, but I like to feel like I'm
adding something to the list now and again, even if it's wrong. <g>
