List,

This weekend's LBC projects included converting from cartridge style oil
filter to a spin-on style, and things went normally, but...ah yes...the
ever present but... as I was buttoning things up I was reminded of an
oddity on this motor that has concerned me since we bought the car, about a
year ago now.

Specifically, the fan belt alignment. When looking at the belt , parallel
to the radiator, the generator pulley is about a 1/2" to the rear of the
car as compared to the water pump pulley, causing a quite skewed belt path.

This one's got me stumped...the generator (22700) mounting is fixed by the
three attachment points and it appears to have the appropriate fan and
pulley. The water pump and pulley (three sheave type) seems to be correct
also. Neither the generator nor the pump exhibit any unusual play or wear.

I suppose I could always go with lots of spacers and longer bolts to
attempt to line things up, but...I'd really like to get to the root cause
of this condition.

Anyone out there Spridgetville ever run into this one and/or have any
thoughts and insights concerning this.

As always...tis appreciated
