There are two kinds of King Pin kits.  One uses shims and a top nut with a
provision for a cotter pin.  The other does not use shims, and has a nylock
nut on top.  With the cotter pin setup, play is removed from the king pin by
the use of shims, and a slightly worn setup can be improved by varying the
thickness of the shims.  Use of the nylock top nut allows a simpler way to
remove play.  IMHO, they nylock setup is prefered, just don't over tighten
it.
