sorry i must have overlooked this point . shiped to usa as a cherry red car
in 59. sold in 61(titled as a 61) new as a green car with a green interior.
i do understand the year on the title thing. back in the 50's and 60's it
was not uncommon to title the car's year of manufacture the same as the year
of sale. reguardless of it's actual manufacture year. most new cars sold
as fast as they arrived back then with few leftovers like today. so i can
see some specialty cars(not main stream) being left over . but for over 2
years? i think it was raced by a dealer in the washington dc aerea and
when finished(the new sprite was coming out in 61!) anticipating a new racer
to come off the truck soon disposed it after a repaint and upholstry change.
back then cost to a dealer must have been afordable to say the least. race
a car for a few years and sell it for what you have in it with little to no
loss. this was really practiced by some racers here in pennsylvania, and i
figure they were not alone.(names withheld to protect the guilty?) LOL! my
sprite is titled as a 61 but it's serial number says 59. chuck the calorie
challenged sprite owner.
