I found a 3/4" hone at NAPA, states is for VW brake cylinder. worked on my
dual master cylinder perfectly.

Removing the MC is pretty straightforward. Take off the lines (rags needed
to catch paint removing fluid), take off the pedal box cover, take out the
cotter pin, take off the two nuts. It's out.
If it's a dual circuit brake master cylinder, like the one in my Midget, I
couldn't get mine apart. I just couldn't get the split ring (or whatever
they call it) off to pull the piston out. I gave up and bought a rebuilt
from Advance Auto Parts for $87.00.
If its a clutch master cylinder, I got mine apart, but couldn't get my
fingers inside to polish the cylinder with crocus cloth, and it is WAY too
small to hone, so I ended up getting a replacement for that too.
Maybe getting replacements is faster, and safer. BTW, complete instructions
for rebuilding these is in both the Haynes and Bentley manuals. Add one of
them to your shopping list! :-)
