My 2 cents worth,-----A couple of years ago I was wondering what kind of axle
housing I had under my wire wheel Bugeye. I was worried I had the short shaft
from a wire set-up slid into a solid wheel housing. I was chatting with a
chap in England via E-mail and he gave me some measurements to check on.
According to him, a person could measure the hand brake rods to tell the
difference! There is a short and a long one and he measured them in total
length , not hole center to hole center.
        Wire wheel axle BTA494/BTA495 Short=14 and 3/4 inches
                                                               Long=26 and
1/2 inches
         Solid wheel axle BTA496/497        Short=15and1/4inches
                                                                 Long=27
inches

   I measured mine and it seems I do have a wire wheel axle on 1/4 elliptic
rear end. I can look up his address if anyone wants to chat directly with
him.              Bob C.
