Very interesting Bob,
But when I upgraded my rear brakes (new backing plates and the double action
wheel cylinder)I had to also change the emergency brake rods as well. I
think what your friend in the UK was referring to was difference in rods
between the early and mid brake setups, but it would make sense to me that
an earlier wire wheel rear-end housing would also have the earlier shorter
emergency brake rods... unless they had a third size E-brake rod setup?

Subject: solid/wire wheel
My 2 cents worth,-----A couple of years ago I was wondering what kind of
housing I had under my wire wheel Bugeye. I was worried I had the short
from a wire set-up slid into a solid wheel housing. I was chatting with a
chap in England via E-mail and he gave me some measurements to check on.
According to him, a person could measure the hand brake rods to tell the
difference! There is a short and a long one and he measured them in total
length , not hole center to hole center.
Wire wheel axle BTA494/BTA495 Short=14 and 3/4 inches
Solid wheel axle BTA496/497 Short=15and1/4inches
I measured mine and it seems I do have a wire wheel axle on 1/4 elliptic
rear end. I can look up his address if anyone wants to chat directly with
him. Bob C.
