I did the following.  I bought some of that flexible/split black wiring
harness stuff from JC Whitney and ran that from the fuel pump relay to the
back of the car.   I then ran my wire for the fuel pump inside this 
harness stuff.  I figure this will prevent it from chaffing and shorting
out.  If by some strange event it does chaff it will still be inside the 
plastic wiring harness.  The stuff was cheap, about $12-16 for 100 feet.
Oh yeah I also wired tied the harness in place to prevent it from moving
about.  YMMV.
