I had a 1962 Ford Falcon. It was given to my dad who gave it to me. The
original owner cranked it over on a cold winter morning and it threw a rod
as it fired up. I found a used motor for $50 and dropped it in. Turned out
to be no good!! No compression!! I sold the car for $90 and bought a 1957
Hudson Metropolitan convertible for $90. My dad had a couple of parts cars
so I lacked nothing to make it a daily driver.

I drove that car for quite a while. It was totalled in a drunk turning left
in front of me accident. I got $400 from the insurance claim and bought a
Bugeye for $100. Towed it home on the end of a rope. Got it running and
drove it everywhere!!! The floor mats kept the rain out and it looked better
after a spray can paint job but it was the most fun to drive. It had
galvanized rocker panels that would not hold paint but made a good
appearance.

I was totally overcome by LBCs. I looked at a Bugeye on the showroom floor
at the local dealership in 1970. It was bright yellow with a black interior.
It showed 27K and looked brand new. It had every AAMCO option you could
imagine. They wanted $600. I couldn't raise that kind of money for
anything....

It was hell being 18 and making $1.60 an hour. No credit, no savings. I
wanted that car so bad....

Next time - the Jaguar that I should have bought.
