Sounds like the DPO was at work here.
The single screw holds the rear axle in the housing. Actually, when the
wheel is mounted, the wheel lugs hold everything together.
Take out the screw and the entire axle will pull out. Check the condition of
the bearing, and if you suspect it is bad, buy a bearing kit that includes
the paper gasket and o-ring. Replace all (not difficult, and not expensive)
and you will have peace of mind for many years.
BTW, if you don't fix it, you will have the diff. oil leaking directly into
the rear brakes. Ask me how I know!
