Phil:
The secret to fitting wheels and tires on a SWA car is in the rear back
spacing. I have found that a wheel with between the 3 3/8 of the Rostyle
and the 4 3/8 of my 5.5 " wide Western alloys fits OK. I have tried Vega 5"
and BMW 5" and either the backspacing is wrong or the center hole is too
small and requires spacers which only exascerbates the problem. On my ' 67
Vintage Racer, a Panhard Bar did solve the problem of inner wheel well
rubbing. I pushed out the outer lip with the 2x4 and bottle jack method as
much as I dared before I painted the car. I usually run A70 Hoosiers on 5.5
" wheels with no rubbing even under racing conditions. Both those tires and
wheels are pretty wide. That's why I say the secret is in the back space
dimension.

Hope you can get something to work. Many of the guys vintage racing
Spridgets are using the Panasport 5" wheel with no problems. Tires range
from 175/70 to A70 to 185/60.
