Remove tach from dash.
Twist and remove chrome bezel
Gently pry off glass (use a razor blade to break the seal if it's still
sealed)
Turn tach over (face on table)
Remove the 2 screws on the back of the housing.
Gently push the guts out of the can. (there is/should be a rubber gasket
in there holding it)
You will see the potentiometer, usually yellow (some are white) insert a
small screw driver and adjust it to a known calibrated tach/dwell meter.
You will have to hook it back up in the car to make this adjustment. But
hooked up outside of it's housing.
Once you see where the adjusable pot is, drill a hole in the back of the
can so future adjustments are a piece of cake using a small screw driver
while the tach is fully assembled and installed in the dash.

If this does not work, smack it with a hammer! This always works.
