  I agree with your points, but I think we are up against
a "which side of the pond" difference.

  There are very few cars for sale in North America that
can't do 0-60 in less than 10 seconds. Even quite a few
minivans and sport utility vehicles can do this.

  (this is the "American" connotation of Minivan, which
is a people-mover with 3 and sometimes even 4 rows
of seats!)

  Maybe in England a car that can do 0-60 in say, 9.9 seconds
could "put most anything on the road to shame", but that just
isn't so on this side of the pond.

  Very typical family cars (that your mother might buy)
would simply walk away from a "9.9 second" car. And frankly,
the way some of these soccer moms drive, they would do
that at every stoplight while yammering on the phone
with one hand and beating their kid in the back seat
with the other!
