First I want to say publicly that Mark Snowdon is a gentleman and a man of
his word. I would not hesitate to deal with him again. The folks on this
list are the best ! Second , I would like to advise anyone thinking about
shipping a transmission to package it so that it would be able to survive
being thrown off the back of a truck onto a cement driveway. My first
transmission arrived packaged with a great deal of care. Unfortunately
padding tends to shift and settle given enough time and distance. If I was
shipping a transmission I would first get a large flat sheet of corrugated
cardboard. Then I would roll the cardboard around the transmission forming a
large ice cream cone shape that extended beyond the input shaft in the front
and beyond the tail shaft in the rear. I would tape around the circumference
of this cone in several places with strapping tape. Then I would pack foam
into the opening were the ice cream would go and tape over it so that the
foam could not fall out. Next I would place this "Transmission Cone" into a
box surrounded on six sides with more padding, and secure the outer box with
more strapping tape. If this sounds like too much work, you could just put
it in a box with some crumpled up news paper and hope for the best. Don't
forget shipping insurance. To anyone thinking of rebuilding their own Datsun
transmission. Do not be afraid ! Anyone who can rebuild a 1275cc can rebuild
a Datsun 5 speed. I got parts and help from Crash, Paul A. and the nice
folks at Rivergate. Thanks Guys ! My transmission is built per print. No
worries about what's inside.
