Steve, 

Not British Military, but it's called Liberty Bell March, written by 
John Philip Sousa (1854-1932). Since he was an American composer, 
conductor and patriot, I don't think it's British. 

A&E has aMonty Pythoin special hat was on the other night and it was 
either Michael Palin or Eric Idle who was discussing how they didn't 
want to use any of the stereotypical "comical" music to tip people off 
as to the kind of show they were doing (in the beginning), hence he 
marching music.
