I just wanted to do something kind of simple. Like pulling the engine and
tranny to replace all the seals and gaskets in my 1500 Midget engine.
Because it had more leaks than the Exxon (the sign of the double-cross)
Valdez. As I progressed however, it seemed that every time I moved
something, I would uncover something else to do. Just the character of the
cars. Today was no exception. The heater box has oil all over it, as does
about everything else from the engine compartment, the entire belly, and all
wheel wells. So I decided to remove it, take it apart, clean it, lube the
motor, and repaint and bake the outer shell. In doing so, I also removed the
battery. Voila!!! What is behind and under the battery??? Holes!!! Yep,
and the battery platform is thin as foil in places.

My fix, as I don't want to get into welding on this my daily driver, is going
to be to grind all the paint and thin metal out of that area and down to bare
metal, cover the holes with duct tape, then fiberglas the whole battery
platform and the walls around the battery. After the fiberglas sets, I will
coat the whole thing with rubberized undercoating, then a coat of paint.
Should be better than the painted metal.
