Since this off topic debate has been born, I will throw in my two cents
worth.  On a micro-economic scale, if it still takes one man hour, one mile
of existing paid for wire, one therm of natural gas that has been in the
ground for 10 zillion years, the only thing that changed the price of
electricity is our willingness to pay more.  The day the generators started
spouting shortage, pay more, we should have voluntarily shut everything off,
like a black out during WW2.  With no customers at all I guarantee the price
wouldn't have gone up.  We're just all to dependent on something that should
be a luxury.
