The VW factory is still in business in Mexico. A brand new old style bug is
about $7500. However, you can not import one to the U.S. because of the
safety and pollution standards. There is a guy in New Mexico or Arizona who
buys them, dissassembles them, ships "parts" into the U.S. and reassembles
them on "used" pans. He buys junked bugs for the "pans" and TITLES then
remanufactures them. There was a dealer of his here close to me. A brand new
1971 Bug was $12,995!
They look really sharp if you like bugs... Brand new old cars...
