Stay with wires and go for a 5" or 5.5" rim.

Alloy wheels are just as easily damaged as wires (kerbs etc) and need more 
cleaning if they are going to look decent rather than pitted and nasty though 
the latter depends if they salt the roads that you drive on in the winter.

With a 100bhp motor and full racing starts I have yet to have a problem with 
inner tubes, I think the consensus is that you need 200bhp at the wheels for 
those type of problems to start.
