I've told this story a dozen times, but here goes.  After symptoms just 
like you described (suddenly OFF with no warning) I replaced the 
rotor.  Two weeks later, the same thing.  Repeat four times.  I finally 
noticed that the "Genuine Lucas" rotors were a very snug fit on the 
shaft.  I relieved the 'locater lump' inside the rotor by 10 thou or so 
with a Dremel.  The latest rotor has lasted since last year and still going.
