Makes sense to me. Are you using sheet metal screws or machine screws? If
machine screws then why not weld the nuts to the back side. This would give
you a better gripping surface than sheet metal screws.(just some thoughts.)

Concerning the quick remove mod, I've only done it to cross-flow radiators
on my 1275s.
What you do is drill out the spot welds that hold the top piece on the
shroud and replace with screws. The bottom bolts that hold the radiator to
the shroud are replaced with studs and no nuts. Then when pulling the
radiator just take the screws out of the top and pull the whole thing up and
out leaving the other 3 sides of the shroud in place.
