Dave,
I actually grind a flat on one end of the "C" to clear where it contacts
the axle. (Actually, I believe this type are called "E" clips) The ones
I've seen have plenty enough material to do this and you don't tave to
remove that much. I do prefer to find the old style circlip instead though.
