Car #1, could the starter be jamming up?
Put the car in 4th gear, brake off, rock it back and forth to free the
starter. Or put a wrench on the square nub sticking out the back of the
starter and give it a turn.
Car #2, double check the points for spark inside the dizzy, short them
out with a screw driver (key on) if they make a spark, then check the
coil. No spark at the point, the coil is probably still good.
