Well-

The CG 1098 is the stronger of the two
1098 engines produced....bigger main
bearings so, "stronger" and in this respect,
more valued than it's smaller bearing "CC" counterpart. It produces
slightly more HP and torque than the smaller
main bearing derivative

........and you have the high compression
variant of the stronger motor, to boot.

It hasn't the torque of a 1275 by any means however, the 1098 is about
the
smoothest of the Series A engines produced (longer stroke than it's
smaller
and larger brothers).

How valuable is it? It is valuable to the
RIGHT person. And just who migh this
be. A guy who wants to keep is originally
equipped Sprite....."original"!

Fr'instance:

I just sold the HC CG that my Frogeye
originally came with....got $1,000 for
it with over 50K on it, just because the
guy who bought it knew the difference
between a "CG" and "CC" and needed
a good used engine for his '65 Sprite.

The 1098 has a relatively longer stroke
than it's smaller and larger brothers so
it is more of a stump puller than a
revver but it will rev to 6K nontheless
and so very, very smoothly at that.....
great silky smooth sound but it's no
powerhouse....about 0-60 in 15 seconds
in stock form, more or less, maybe a little
quicker with a good shifter behind the wheel!! :)

I love my new Rivergate 1293 but it
is not silky smooth by any means, though
it is blueprinted and balanced ("street"
tolerances). It's raspy as hell but it "goes"
like it sounds also!! Very "torquey" build,
"tailored" for street racing....everything
"happens" below 5.5K.
