In my pre glass bead cabinet days, I used a wire wheel on the bench 
grinder. That worked pretty good.
I have heard (but can not confirm) that JB-Weld can be used as a bondo 
type filler on pock marks and pits on the exhaust manifold.
Smear it on, sand it at just the right time before it gets too hard.
I don't know if JB will hold up to exhaust manifold heat but somebody 
once told me it works. I never tried it myself.
