Sickly Midget

Here is what I have found out so far:

There is NO water in the oil. The dipstick has clean oil on it, although it
was a little low, indicating the oil is coming from somewhere on the engine.

When I pulled the plugs, the #1 and #4 plugs were black and sooty, not oily,
indicating a too rich mixture. The #2 and #3 plugs were brownish gray.

The compression checked out thusly:

Dry: #1= 100 #2= 95 #3= 92 #4= 95

Wet: #1= 180 #2= 173 #3= 150 #4=185

I used a good screw-in compression tester. The rings were not renewed a year
ago when I had them out but they looked good--not burnt or worn. Maybe I
will have to put new rings in, which can be done with the engine in the car.

That is as far as I got today---pretty cold outside where I was working and
had to go into town to do some stuff. Anybody who has a "read" on these
figures is welcome to offer ideas or suggestions.
