My fiancee's kid took his new computer to college.
It worked fine when he left. By Xmas break, it was
slow as a snail. The reason...

He'd download all kinds of free stuff. Kazaa would
run software in the background, slowing down his
machine. There is also pop-up ad monitoring software
that was installed unknown to the user. Clicking on the
"wrong" website would cause other "spy" software to
be installed on his machine, sucking up CPU cycles.
All of this stuff killed the performance of his machine.
You may be experiencing similar problems.

There is a web site that tells you how to look at all the
files that are loaded at startup.
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm

I'm sending you a separate email listing all the stuff
I found on the kid's PC. You may want to check
yours for similar files. If anyone on the list wants
the file, let me know. If I get overwhelmed with
responses, I'll post it to the list.

Cheers,
Kent
