Close Frank.... But you better stick to LBC's.... LOL...

Okay Larry a Dry Sump engine has an external rather then Internal Oil
pump... it normally has several pick up points in the engine where it
scavanges oil from the engine and pumps it back into a reservior mounted
outside of the engine... where it's stored until the external pump grabs it
... pressurizes it and sents it back to the bearings and other components of
the engine to be recovered again....

The upside is that you don't have a crank bathed in oil all the time... it
only gets oil to it's bearings ..... it doesn't have to spin through oil
contained in the oil pan.....

A Dry Sump does use an oil pan... but only to recover and control the
limited oil in the engine itself...

With an external tank it can be of any size....and your filtering options
are pretty spectacular...

My 299 cubic inch motor I set the record at Bonneville with uses a dry
sump.... it's just the correct set up for racing.... not effected in any way
by lateral G forces...

Hope this answers the question...
