I had an 88 F150 and the brake light did the same thing.
It was the E brake warning switch under the E brake pedal that was a bit 
out of adjustment. It thought the parking brake was on when it was not.
Try this for a quick test. Lift up on the E brake pedal and see if the 
light goes out. If not, better have the brakes looked at.
