Hey youse: Just a heads up. Several listers (those of us driving the more
upmarket MG version of Spridget) are already entered for the adrenalin and
sweat roundy-round. If you have never been to the Vintage Grand Prix at the
Glen,
and experienced the down-town festival with the cars doing the original
street track, then you could do worse next fall!

Re: Collier Cup 2004 Update, January 2004
(Not for Publication - there will be a separate Press Release)

The vision of over 100 racing MG's will become reality this
September! The 50th Anniversary celebration of the Collier Trophy at
Watkins Glen with SVRA is approaching! Mark you calendars for what is
building to be one of the greatest MG racing events ever - EVER! Over
100 MG's RACING ! Many MG race enthusiasts are working hard to
support this SPECTACULAR MG race, but the hard core ones are: Mark
Palmer (MGVR Editor), Dick Powers (CC04 Event Coordinator), Bill
Hollingsworth (CC04 Advisor), and Greg Prehodka (MGVR Publicity
Coordinator). They are encouraging EVERY MG racer to make this race!
They met this past week to continue their planning, and here is an
update on CC04 from that meeting:

Current CC04 Planning Highlights:

I. SEVENTY-FIVE (75) MG racers are ALREADY planning to come to CC04

II. There will be "TWO Collier Cup RACES" due to the large MG turnout!
For this year, each CC race group will choose its own co-winner for
the Collier Cup. First, the older (& slower) Pre-War and T series
have their CC race on Saturday. Second, the newer (& faster) A's B's
C's & Midgets race together on Sunday in their CC race. But as a
special FEATURE for Sunday's CC race, "ALL the Racing MG's" will take
a parade pace lap together (Awesome photo op) on the track! Then
Saturday's group will pull off after the pace lap, and Sunday's group
goes racing. This also gives all MG racers a chance to watch the CC
MG race they are "not in".

III. MGVR has worked with SVRA to get MG racers an "Early Bird Discount" for
CC04. SVRA is also being most generous in granting MG's from other clubs
certain equipment waivers (details in MGVR newsletter)

IV. MGVR's dinner at the event will be held Friday evening at the track's
Glen Club.

V. MGVR members will receive area vacation literature sometime in February
from WG area chambers of commerce (great family vacation area!).

VI. For the Watkins Glen downtown festival Friday afternoon, MG - as a group
- will LEAD the drive to town and around the original course. MG is the
FEATURED GROUP!

VII. MG Racers will have their own paddock and information center at the
track.

VIII. Doug Chadwick will again take a panoramic photo of all the MG racers.
MGVR will have its own POSTER for the event, designed by George Herschell Jr.,
which each MG racer will get. MGVR will have plenty of its own regalia at
the event, including "CC04 car badges".

IX. NAMGAR and the New England MG 'T' Register are both having gatherings
there in support of the race weekend.

X. We're working on getting several significant MG and Collier related people
to join us for dinner & the weekend. We're also trying to get several
"historical MG's" to be on display.

XI. Besides the Collier Cup this weekend, remember there is also the "T Cup",
the "Cornett Award" and the "MGVR Spirit Award". We're working on getting a
few other special awards also.

XII. This event will get SIGNIFICANT publicity, before and after the race.
Also trying to line up some TV coverage.

XIII. The next MGVR newsletter with lots of supporting information, is "being
mailed" now - as this e-mail goes out - and you should have it in a few days.

XIV. And besides - if you miss this event - you'll be too old to race at the
100th anniversary of the Collier Trophy!

We're on our way! The clock is ticking! Make your room
reservations (see newsletter) soon if you haven't already. As we
already have 75 MG racers planning to come, it looks like there will
easily be well over 100 by race day!
