Yes, that's exactly it. Functionally, I don't think it makes a
difference, but for condensor replacemet, which I thought was a regular
maintenance thing, it's a weird arrangement. I'm curious how common this
is, though...

That is exactly how it came off the TC - it all looked pretty original
and
un-tampered with to me.
Looking at the photo I presume that you just mean the orange and black
wires
are both crimped to the same bit of copper that connects to the points
terminal post. Usually I think you are right, they have seperate
connectors
each so that they can be replaced independantly.
If you snip off the orange wire from that terminal , then the spade
connector on a replacement condenser should just slip under the terminal
spring in the normal way
