I discarded the stock filter cans from my '72 Midget years ago
in favor of a pair of "naked" filter elements topped with
wooden disks bolted thru to the SUs with the usual bolts.
Seems to work better than original (less restriction) BUT
over time the tension on the bolts tends to compress the
(again) NAKED filter elements.

So what are my options?

Are the original metal cans as restrictive as they seem?

Should I look for tubular spacers (as on the original
filter cans) to prevent the (still NAKED) elements from
compressing?

Are there still available K&N type filters and will they be
an improvement over the originals AND over my naked
(yet again that word) elements?

What are y'all using?

thanks,

chuck
