The tappets are regular stock tappets.  I had my hands full trying to 
start the car with the rebuilt modified carb that would only run at full 
choke.  I needed three hands just to keep it running.  After replacing 
the rebuilt HIF44 carb with a brand new un-modified carb it would start 
easily and rub hands off, but I was trying to bed in the lifters to the 
cam and was holding the throttle lever to maintain 2500 RPM.   Only then 
did I notice that the blue smoke was building up.  I will start it again 
and observe with the filler cap off and see how much oil builds up.  
There is alternate thinking on the blue smoke Larry Miller says the 
valve cover needs to be vented or it will smoke.  There are many things 
to try.  Still worried about the slow draining on fill up after oil 
change though.
