Spridgeteers,

Got the license plates replaced on my Bugeye, registration is up to date,
and I have ordered "1959 BMC" as personalized plates.

I now need to put the "street legal bits" back on the car... and one or two
more things, such as a charging system! I do have a couple of dynamos
(generators), but would prefer to go with a small alternator - any of you
running a small Japanese or American alternator from a car or tractor?

I don't have any dashboard switches for lights/turn signals. Any lister
selling those new? Or able to spare/sell some used one? Would I be better
off buying some aftermarket switches? In any case, I would prefer not to
buy from Moss et al, if possible.

I do have a windscreen, and wiper motor, etc, but I am still wondering if I
can get away with "brookland screens" or even my racing lexan small wrap
around screen - quite a few folks seem to run with Brookland screens on
their Caterham 7s around So Cal with no problem... but.... it does not mean
it is legal in CA! Of course, fitting Brookland screens means wearing a
helmet, which gets you "funny looks" from "ordinary" motorists. Thinking
about it, driving the Lotus Seven already gets me "funny looks" form other
motorists, and that's without the helmet! 8-)

I am obviously not concerned about originality, considering the very
modified state of the car... but I 'd rather stay "in period" and with
British mechanics. The full race engine and straight cut competition gearbox
are not suitable on the road... Yes, I can always fit a 1275 with Datsun
transmission and one of the Datsun transmission kits from either Paul A. or
Rivergate, and I might end up doing that - but I would like to be a bit
more "adventurous", without going to the extremes I have seen (Jaguar E
type engine, small block V8, etc!)... Would an early Ford/Lotus Twin Cam
fit? OK folks, suggestions?
