Trunk Lid Lip Repair?

I've got some rust in the lip and the channel around the trunk lid (of my
1985 BMW 535i street/track car). The issues of repair would be very similar
to that of a Spridget. I'm looking for suggestions for repair and complete
cessation of rust via at home repair, nothing pretty necessary as the car
has 350K on the clock with very poor paint (little remaining clear coat on
any horizontal surface). Given that I have had the car for the last 300K
miles and 15 years (its been a great car and still is very quick), I really
would love to completely resolve the rust, rebuild the lip (so that the
water does not seep in and that the trunk seal fits properly), and repair
the small holes in the channel.

Any suggestions about chemicals for removal of paint, sealant, etc. in a
small area? Suggestions about killing the rust off? Suggestions about
repair materials for the holes and rebuilding of the lip? Suggestions about
final coverage of the area? Keep in mind that this is a car worth well
under $3K, even considering that it's a heck of a daily driver and a very
reliable & quick track car.
