Guys,

With regard to the tire question, my MKII Midget delivered in October 65
came with Dunlop Gold Seal C 41 5.20.13 bias ply tires. Tubeless, but not for
wire wheels, which had tubes. Radials were optional. Six months or so later
the dealer installed Semprit radials. Made in Ireland, I believe. WWs were
also optional. Two of the showroom Midgets had WW Dunlops I assumed were
factory. Later Midgets, I think, might have had Perellis, radial, that were
wider, probably 165s.
I still have the Midget originals out in the garage, but they are not
much good for anything other than conversation.
The invoice for my 60 Bugeye says it came with WWs; although it had the
BW C-41s on it when I got it many years later. I don`t know where the former
owner got them. She did work at the BMC/ Lealand dealer.
Universal Vintage Tire (800-233-3827) now offers repro Dunlop 5.20.13
C-41 BW and Firestone WW, same size. Nice original detail, but if you are
accustomed to radials bias tires make the car handle pretty sloppy.

My question: Does anyone know if the tachometer gearbox on the generator
needs to be lubricated? There is a tiny screw with a lock washer on the output
end that appears to have no purpose except to block a hole, apparently to the
bearing. Oil hole, like the water pump? If so, does it take oil or grease?

Bert Shirey.
