Sounds like I missed all the fun, yesterday, while spending quality time
w/my youngest son, and a shop full of Spridgets. I replied to this
particular post, because I thought Mark pretty much nailed it.
Personally, I hate "blunder-buses", because I see them as fat, clumsy,
inefficient, and a danger to me, and other's, who drive more efficient cars.
However, I strongly support the right of others to drive such monstrosities,
if they so choose.
I think that what really pisses us off, about SUVs, is not so much the
stupidity of such a large, ungainly vehicle, but, rather, the stupid
behavior exhibited by such a large percentage of those who drive them. But,
I have to concede that, if random acts of stupidity were absolutely fatal,
no human could survive for too long.
Now for my Spridget question: I'm in the process of rehabing an old SCCA
warrior (1098 Midget), and I'm going to need some replacement sheet metal.
The car's rear fenders (inner & outer) have been butchered, and bent beyond
repair, due to mods for flares, and on-track "contact". I've also got to
replace outer sills, and lower door posts, due to rust (even though the car
has been a racer since '64). While the sills & door post sections are no
big deal, I can't see buying new, Heritage fenders for a race car. And, the
repair panels don't come up high enough to allow me to eliminate all of the
tortured, original steel. So, is there a salvage yard out there, somewhere,
that would have complete, rust-free, rear inner & outer fenders, at a
REASONABLE price?
 Thanks.

Then no one's talking about you, Biff! You would have bought an SUV
even if they were very unpopular, just as people have always done.

If there were suddenly a national fad where people started buying and
driving combines to work and to the mall, I'd think that was stupid
too, and I'd say so. But what a waste of time if every grain farmer
felt he had to defend himself and say "I only use my combine when I'm
working my fields." Well of course! Doesn't mean that every suburban
family that never gets closer to grain than their Hostess twinkies
should drive a combine.
