Oh, and 6894 would have been built in November 58.

Mark,

According to my copy of "Original Sprite and Midget", 1958 production
ended between numbers 8283 and 9191. 16894 would have been built around
April 1959.

There would be an L if the car was originally Left-hand drive, which I'd
assume your car was originally.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Bugeye VIN Decoding

Another Bugeye question.

I received my Bugeye title today and have a question: The title lists
the
car as AN516894. I believe that it should be AN5L6894, am I correct in
thinking that a 58 Bugeye would only have 4 digits following the "L"? My
books show the first Bugeye as 501 which would make mine the 6393rd car
made, but did they make that many in 1958? I have looked in the several
books on my shelf but didn't find the production info. Did later Bugeyes
roll over to 5 digits following the "L" once past the 10,000 production
number I also want to order BMIHT certificate and need to make sure it
is
correct, the car has a 1275 so engine number won't help. I thought I
would
try to get my local DMV to make the correction on my title, fat chance
don't
you think....

Thanks,

Mark
