I have never done this, but I understand that some auto paint stores, like 
NAPA, have computerized scanners that will scan a paint chip or painted body 
part and come up with the specific formula for matching the paint.  Check it 
out at your local NAPA store to see whether they have such a scanner.  Maybe 
some listers have experience with that.
