I thought the old models did not use all the dip switch's. I believe my old
unit only uses the last four. it is a old Stanley too.

I do not think any one wants my door open with out one of us home. The dogs do
not like strangers visiting. Only the single door is wood. The two car is the
new light weight aluminum. I have pulled the release on the big door when the
power was out and lifted the door with no problem.

The first time we had a spring break both cars were in the garage and we
ended up using numerous pieces of lumber, prybars, and automotive jacks to
get that heavy wooden door open so I could get to work.

The second time our van was outside so we just used that until the repair
guy came by. He had a jack similar to an old bumper jack that did the work
for him rather quickly.

One other thought is have you checked the control switch? If it's an older
opener and control maybe the contacts and just getting weak and causing the
door to operate unintentionally.

I thought of that the other day when the power was off for a few hours. I
think that it can be done with a bit of muscle, but, my family car doesn't
fit in the garage, so we can use that. When a spring broke, when we first
bought this old house, the repair guy showed up and told me that I couldn't
lift that big door by myself and then later on, he did. He is substantially
smaller than I am, but I'm not going to try it unless I have to. :)
